Abstract

The discussion about autonomy or utility of the artworks has an especial instance for the arts supported on language and writing. That is why reflection on literature and poetry confronts divergent perspectives: related to the correspondence of the artworks with historical moments or plans for social intervention. On the other hand, can be ask if the artworks would have some independence from the events of the social or geographical context of its creation. Sartre offers an important version of this debate which is necessary to understand some of the ways this debate takes among theoricians accepting or rejecting the main arguments of the French writer who assumes that literature must be engaged, must denounce the situations of misery in the society to try to change those conditions.
